Wow... so... wow.

That was incredibly short. Very, very short. I was wondering why a person would wait until May to read the first "collection" of stories and now I realize why. Because absolutely nothing happens in the first section.

Well, that's not entirely accurate. Or fair, I suppose. It's a fairly typical "cold open" that would happen before the opening credits on the show. The idea is to give the readers an update on what everyone is up to. There's a radio playing the background (exposition, I suppose) that's talking about how the world has changed since Superman arrived.

I had some issues with Chloe and Oliver making out on the balcony. I'm not gonna lie or pretend that I suddenly like Chloe & that it makes any sense whatsoever that she's married to Ollie. Much like I used to when watching the show, I tuned this portion out. (Although, the drawing captured Mack and Hartley fairly well, I think.)

Lois makes an appearance. In a manner of speaking. She's sleeping (and wearing a Superman shirt while doing so, but of course) and she's muttering nonsense in her sleep. Specifically, "Barrister... stole my rabbit...". And "Show YOU... some tacos....".

And that's it. Lois's scene is done. Honestly, she doesn't look much like Durance.

Then we move on to check on Lex who is - as usual - listening to the stuff about Superman and having a meltdown about it and saying that he's waiting for Superman to show up. Lex is very much Lex in terms of every single version of Superman I've ever seen. He vaguely resembles Rosenbaum, but when I read it I didn't hear Rosenbaum's voice in my head. Instead, I heard the Lex Luthor from the animated series. This makes me wonder if I'll hear Rosenbaum's voice when/if Flash shows up?

Anyway... we move onto a Russian spaceship that is checking for large planets or other things that can harm Earth. I'm not sure what they hope to accomplish here. I mean, they're humans. If a gigantic planet was hurling their way, what could they possibly do to stop it?

Turns out, not much. Something happens (not exactly sure what) and that then opens it up for a dramatic entrance from our star - SUPERMAN! He looks like Welling. He really, really, really looks like Welling. He saves the day and he even gets in some interesting dialogue. When one guy asks him for an autograph for his son because Sueprman's his number one hero, Superman immediately says that his son already has someone good to look up to - his father. Superman also cracks a bit of a joke about how he hasn't gotten around to learning Russian yet, but he'll get right on that. I was hearing Welling's voice in my head, so I could imagine him delivering that line in a very deadpan kind of a way.

And then... well... it's done. I'm not sure where they are going with this, but I do know that it's going to take a bit of an adjustment reading a comic book in less than 3 minutes that gives me a fraction of an "episode's" story when this would have normally been just the opening teaser on the regular show.

And I need less Chloe and a hell of a lot more Lois. But that goes without saying, I'm sure.

I agree that it was very short. But I really liked it.

What really got me was Clark.

I've been heartbroken as a comics reader why what they've done to Clark in the new 52. He's not himself anymore. He's not the humble Superman we used to know. Instead they've made him "angry" and "isolated' (their words) in order to make him "relatable."

When I saw those final scenes with Clark in space...it felt like a slap in the face to the entire new 52 approach to Superman. He was Clark again. Kind, humble, honorable.

Honestly, I teared up.

Digital is still a growing idea for DC so it's hard to say if they will stick with the short weekly bursts long term. This is going to be a growing process. But I am thrilled to have the book. Just thrilled.

ICAM to all of the above, and I also agree, Sana: more Lois and less Chloe.

I'm excited to see where it goes.

Frankly, I'll be waiting until they finish an "issue" before I go read it. This sounds like it finishes before I get to the point where I typically even get into the comic. Plus, an issue overall would make it easier for me to see where they're going with everything.

I mean, looking at this now, I could get livid that they take the time to show Chloe and Ollie making out (because it's ONCE AGAIN more important to establish where Chloe is in relationship to Ollie than it is to have a scene where we find out what the HELL is going on with Lois and Clark and why they didn't get married. Personally? I think even one line that hints to further explanations down the road would have been preferable). And I may still say, in a couple of weeks, that it's clear that BQM's priorities aren't where they should be. But in 20 pages, it's a little hard for me to categorically decide how I feel about everything that's going on.

Still...Chloe and Ollie are making out. Lois is sleeping and saying nonsense in bed. Eventually, my eye will stop twitching.

After a few issues come out, if it seems there's a storyline there I'd want to read, I'll look into the digital copies. I just can't get into a story that's over just as I'm getting into it, so I need a few "issues" out before I really give it a shot anyway. Or I'll just wait until the paper copies hit my comic store and see it there. I prefer paper to digital, personally, and I'm certainly not going to buy it twice.

The ONLY thing that even remotely encouraged me about this comic is that BQM is penning it, and I did enjoy some of his work on Smallville. I enjoy his humor, and I liked his Batgirl. Which was impressive because I'd always pretty much hated her as the Spoiler before. That said, everything I've read has given me pause and it is with great trepidation (and a certain degree of disgust on a couple of matters) that I contemplate it.

I do expect that, if Lana comes back, he still won't address the powersuit/AoS dabacle and will pretend that arc on the show didn't happen. Not that I necessarily blame him. If I inherited the steaming turd of Power/Requiem, I'd want to do everything I could to ignore it existed as well.

But I guess we'll see. Though it'll take a few weeks for me to get over my irritation that there's something else out there with Chloe Friggin' Sullivan in it. I was so glad that I was never again going to have to discuss a NEW scene with Chloe being a time/spacesuck and ruining the characterization of other, BETTER characters. Sigh.

As for Superman...again, I'm going to wait to see, and this really wasn't long enough for me to get a good feel for it. Mostly, I want to see what BQM does with Superman once everyone's together. After all, even in the series, the showrunners had moments of treating Clark really well when they were just handling him off doing something. It was when they had to make Chloe or Lana or Young Kid Extra #2 relevant to the story and make an excuse for Green Arrow to save the day or Chloe to still EXIST that they would throw Clark to the wolves. So I'm still...cautious.

By "read it" I mean...after this one. I did have to check this one out. But it didn't inspire me to keep up with things until I have enough to lump them together and read them in one go.

Yeah, I agree that it might make more sense to lump them together and read them in one go.

And, yeah, Chloe will make your eye twitch. Skip over those parts.

I loved it. I didn't even mind Chloe and Ollie lol.

I loved the whole light to the issue (something sadly missing from dcnu supes). I loved Lois talking in her sleep about tacos and touching Clark's pillow.

And Clark. Oh my smiling superman. How nice to see you again. He was sweet and kind and everything smallvilles superman was and everything that missing from the nu52.

Can't wait til next Friday!

I'm not following the New 52, so I wasn't as focused on Superman. I've been watching JLU and Superman:TAS series (which has a smiling Superman) and he's been a little funny on Young Justice.

Didn't want to be too spoiled so didn't read the whole thing. But sounds like I'll be waiting until may to read the first collection.

I liked the Superman stuff, but would have preferred for Lois to actually do something.

Chloe had more time in this comic than Lois and that is all kinds of wrong.

Yeah, I know. More Chloe than Lois = Terrible idea.

Thankfully, she's not in the second issue.

I don't think we're getting a "Lois doing something" arc for her, though. I get the sense that Lois will always be at the apartment or the DP, giving Clark a pep talk.

Yeah, I like that she dreams about food. LOL

This one was very short but the second one is a little longer.

I honestly don't have any appetite left for Chloe. And by that I mean I can't even tolerate anyone saying her name, let alone watching her make out with Ollie Sullivan. I still don't understand where the SV people got this idea that Smallville fans in general give a damn about Chloe/Oliver. Is there a place we can let BQM know we're absolutely not interested in that stuff?

I'll wait till several issues come out and things get clearer before I'll decide if I want to buy the books or not. BQM did say there were a lot of Lois/Clark moments coming up so I'll wait and see.

Be prepared for a lot of Chloe overall. BQM loves her. And frankly, the biggest problem has always been that TPTB overestimate how many Chloe fans there are in the context of all SV fans. Unfortunately, no matter how much we complain they'll think that we're just being Lois fans who hate Chloe & so our ire won't count for much.

Smallville Season 11

I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. There were a lot of people that were *So Happy* and I thought. "Huh, I want to know why" but I can't because my debit card got hacked and I need to process paperwork to get my money back while I wait for a new card.

But, to be honest, even before that happened, I was torn. Between wanting to see Superman grow from a show I spent ten years of my life watching and hoping about.... and the honest to goodness, overly intense hatred I have for Chloe and not wanting to ever *EVER* have to see her or hear about her ever again.

I remember early in season ten that I wanted, wished, prayed for a season 11 because I wanted *ONE* Chloe-free season. But after those first few episodes, I quickly realized that that would never happen, so I was beyond glad that we wouldn't get another season, if only because I knew that we'd get a Chloe overload, and the way my luck is, they'd somehow find a way to worship Lana on the few episodes Chloe wasn't in.... BUT, I digress.

I'm curious, and slightly hopeful that good things will come. I just am having a hard time getting past the Chloe-worship. It's the super-happy people that got me wanting to see the good parts.

Oh, how I wish they have the guts to kill off Chloe now that it's in comic-book form.

I feel the same way about Chloe. I hated that they brought her back for S10. (And if that PattyLaurie person is to be believed, they apparently cared more about locking in Mack than locking in Durance for S10). Then they hook her up with Ollie and make Ollie's arc all Chloe just because they didn't know what else to do with her.

And now we have to watch this all go down in this canon version of S11? Bullshit. Chloe sucked and has sucked for years. She continues to suck even in this version of SV.

I'm going to try to skip over her parts and ignore them but we'll see how that goes.

My dislike for Chloe (and the producers love for her) aside I actually kinda find that one a little hard to believe. Especially in s10. Lois' character and the Clois relationship was huge part of the last few seasons. And Lois was an extremely loved character as well. And I think the producers knew all this. Lois and Clois was huge draw on the show, they got to play around with an "epic relationship", and do their own take on the Clark/Lois relationship. Including the Lois and The Blur/Superman related stuff as well as many other storylines. And that's just some of that. There is no way they'd prioritize having Chloe and a Chloe/Oliver relationship over everything that comes from having Lois on the show, imo. I think it might just be that more time was spent getting Mack to come back since the rest of them like Tom, Erica, Justin, and Cassidy were a given. Rather then getting Mack to come back being a bigger priority then Erica.

i thought it was too short either! LOL the truth is that i'm not used to buy digital copies or anything so i had no idea what's going to be...but i was hoping for a little more pages hehehe

I didn't think Lois had any resemblance with Erica too. And, being completely honest with you, i wish there was no more Chloe (or Chlollie for that matter... argh) in these series. I'm so glad i'm not alone here LOL

i hadn't bought the #2 yet because i was a little bit disappointed with the first issue. I think i'll wait a few more week and buy more issues at once ;)
