I stumbled across a fanfic site called "Sink Into Your Eyes" and realized that there's a whole treasure trove of Harry/Ginny fanfiction on the interwebs.
And happened to read a few by an author named CassandraCross.
And now I'm addicted. Oh.my.God. I stayed up until 2am last night reading one of her fics (ironically, it has the same name as one of my own fics -- "Great Expectations) and now I'm trying to hunt down some more awesome Harry/Ginny fics to fill the void since I went through all of her stories.
So... calling all Harry Potter/Ginny shippers: I need me some more fic! The problem is that I'm a very high maintenance fic reader. The fics MUST be 100% canon fics. Meaning that they have to be written post-DH and characters who are dead should be dead & people should be married to the correct people. No Draco/Hermoine pairings for me.
I saw that the last post garnered some great fic recs & I'm on it... going to start going through them now.

Date: 2011-07-20 04:29 am (UTC)I've been reading H/G fics for years (since OotP, back in 2003), so I have a bunch of favorite fics that don't follow current canon, but let me take a look to see what I can recomend you.
I feel like hugging you!!! And please, feel free to recommend anything worth reading, I'm always on the look for new reading material, although this last 2 or 3 years I've read more Clois fanfiction than anything elsr. DH part 2 relight my interest in HP fanfiction, although right now I'm reading R/Hr stories ;)

Date: 2011-07-20 05:21 am (UTC)I am a HUGE H/G shipper. Always have been - since Book One actually. I remember going through physical pain when I was reading "Order of Phoenix", because I couldn't believe that Harry would go for Cho when he could have gone for Ginny. It was like watching Clana unfold before me ALL OVER AGAIN.
Honestly, the main reason I've avoided being part of the HP fandom is because of the Harry/Hermoine shippers. I had heard stuff about how they're were even worse than Chlois fans & so I stayed away. Because I didn't want a fandom ruining my love for Hermoine's character. I love her with Ron and I am a Ron/Hr shipper, but I must admit that I'm a little bitter that JKR spent 7 books focusing on the R/Hr love story, but poor Ginny's love story was pretty much handled all off-screen. I mean, seriously, we couldn't have gone on a walk with H/G after he planted one on her in the common room? Just ONE BLOODY walk?
You've probably already read these stories, but you should should check out "Great Expectations" by Cassandra Cross, as well as the sequel. Her writing voice is almost a perfect sync with the books -- I really felt like she got Harry's character's down PAT.
I've been shifting through the other fics, but none have captured my interest like her stories did. I do have to admit, though, that I'm started to feel that little tingle I used to get over Clois fics & wondering if I should try to write a one-shot in the HP verse.
Then I look at my 'to do list' and tell myself I'm being crazy.

Date: 2011-07-20 01:26 pm (UTC)In OotP I saw this amazing, strong and independet girl, who was't afraid of calling Harry on his bull (like Hermione was, many times) and who could understand him more than anyone else. So they became my HP OTP, although I kept thinking they weren't going to happen, with the Profecy there I was sure Harry would die.
I can't put into words the happiness that HBP was for me, just knowing that Harry was in love with Ginny was enough, and that kiss... ooooh, it was Several sunlit days for me too :).
I was a part of the HP fandom before I came into the Smallville fandom, I had to endure years of people trashing Ginny and Ron, so when I moved from one fandom to other it was with the hope that in Smallville fandom, where things weren't open for interpretation (because there were 70 years of story, backing Clois) people wouldn't trash of deny canon, but was I wrong. I don't know if the Chlark/Chlois fans are as bad as the Harmony ones, i've been dealing with the later for far too long, and never got involve with Chlark/Chlois fans, but I think they are just as bad.
I'm just like you about R/Hr, I think I would love them a lot more if the Harmony shippers (and the movies) hadn't ruined Hermione for me. I'm finally coming to terms that everything was the fandom's fault, not the character, and I'm loving her once again.
I like the way Rowling handled H/G in the books, I wish she had written more about them, like a scene where they played together Quidditich at the Burrow over the summer before Harry's sixth year or something similar, but all in all, it was alright.
One of my favorite scene was when the four of them are sitting in the common room and Ginny tells them all Rominda Vane wants to know is if Harry has an hippogriff tatooed on his chest.
I think I haven't read "Great Expectation", as soon as I finnish what I'm reading now (a R/Hr AU), I'll get into that.
I'm not going to say anything on the possibility of you writting H/G... except that I have every single pair of finger crossed so you can find the time :)
Like I said, Ginny is my favorite female HP character, and in the list of my favorite characters ever she's a close second to Lois. Which is why, a couple of years ago, I did this: http://undianormal.livejournal.com/7883.html

Date: 2011-07-20 04:11 pm (UTC)That is so sweet. There, at least I know I'll have ONE reader!
In all seriousness, I am starting to get these ideas floating around in my head. But - other than the time factor - the thing that stops me is that I'm not quite sure I could do the characters justice. I'm very much a canon freak and the tone of the characters (and whether they're OOC or not) is very important to me, both as a reader and writer. And since I'm not British, I feel that I just won't be able to get the nuances right.
But I'll toss of a one shot or two. We'll see.

IIRC, Cross writes everything in her own universe and so this fic was consistent with that one. BUT... I'm not sure... I believe it's the sequel... I'll have to go hunting things down to see if I meant something else.

Date: 2011-07-20 04:06 pm (UTC)I read an article on EW yesterday that that asserted that the Harry Potter movies showed that "Harry ended up with the wrong girl" and that "Ginny didn't deserve Harry" and I literally felt myself flying into a blind rage wanting to kill someone. It felt like a Clark/Lois type of rage. That's how I knew that my love for Harry/Ginny was real. By the rage. LOL

Date: 2011-07-20 10:30 pm (UTC)My main ship is R/Hr so I can't really help with H/G stories. I have a hard time finding H/G stories I enjoy because I hate when they are portrayed as above everyone else, and everything they do is golden. I read a lot of those stories in the beginning and they turned me off H/G fanfiction. I do love them in the books, though not as much as R/Hr.
Oh, and when I first got involved in Smallville fandom and read the arguments of Chlois/ Chlarkes I got the Harmony vibe from them. My favorite was being told that their ship was for the intellectually superior, and I was a simple minded idiot for not getting it. Blah! Thinking about it today still makes me rage.
I hope find good H/G stories, and I wouldn't mind reading one from you. I love how you write :)

Date: 2011-07-20 11:35 pm (UTC)But since it was a story from the POV of Ron/Hermione's daughter, I shrugged it off.
The thing that is really throwing me off in a lot of the stories is how the OTHER characters are written. A little too much... as in, Ron & Hermione are fighting all the time. Ron's a little dumb (which I don't like) and the Weasley's are just too much.
Only a few have managed to capture the true spirit of the characters so far. But, then again, I've only just scratched the surface.

Date: 2011-08-07 07:33 am (UTC)Anyhow, I've gone through my own stories, and the only two to meet the criteria is a one-shot I did in 2007 and a story that's currently not completed that takes place after the battle that I'm not sure I'm going to complete. Here's the one-shot: Open at the Close. The only thing off about it is at the time I wasn't sure of Ginny's position, but needed her to be seeker for the story to work.
I think the big thing about a good bit of my stories is that they're either AU (one is exploring what could have happened if Ginny had successfully stolen the Sword of Gryffindor) or they were started before DH was released and so I'd worked in characters such as Fred, Lupin and Tonks that I just couldn't drop. So, they continued on as AU even though they all contain the canon pairings.
The rec list you were given is excellent.
And, I've been sucked back into writing H/G fic as well. They're such a great couple to come back to (and Ron/Hermione as well.)

Date: 2011-08-08 03:23 am (UTC)Unfortunately, I have not yet written more of "Standing on the Brink" (well, I have 50% of the next chapter written). The reason is that I got side-tracked by this Lily Luna/Scorpius Malfoy story that just ran into my head, took up camp there, and REFUSES to go away. Until I get that entire out and on paper, I feel like I can't go back to "Standing on the Brink".
The good news is that I'm almost done with the Lily/Scorpius story, though. Only a few chapters left to go. So, I'm hoping to update "Standing on the Brink" by the end of the week or the week after.
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! I'm so glad you're enjoying "Standing on the Brink". That moment with Molly seems to be such a sticking point for so many of the readers of the story. And I was a little taken aback by that. They're so annoyed with Molly, but - why WOULDN'T Molly say that to her 18 year old daughter? Is Ginny going to only be Harry Potter's significant other for the rest of her life? I just feel like she deserves to be something MORE and she should be able to take the time to figure it out.

Date: 2011-08-08 03:34 am (UTC)I think that's the unfair assumption about Ginny that it feels like a segment of the HP fandom feels that she is nothing more than Harry's significant other, and I admit I was disappointed that Ginny's crowning moment of awesome wasn't seen like Luna and Neville's in the last book. It's why I like writing her so much. She's a fantastic character, and there's a lot to work with. She deserves more.
Your Lily/Scorpius story looked great as well, and I've got it on the to-read list.

Date: 2011-08-08 01:59 pm (UTC)So, yeah, I totally want my daughter to wait until she's 25 to get engaged. Take her time - enjoy school, etc. Figure out what she wants to be and who she wants to be before she settles down with kids. Travel, etc.
Yeah, I was also disappointed by how Ginny was handled in the last book. Not only did we not see a crowning moment of awesome, we also didn't get to see Ginny & Harry have a real reunion. I mean, he was clearly thinking about her the whole time, but we got that epic kiss with Ron/Hermione, but Ginny didn't even get to hug the guy. At least the movie gave us that much.
I feel like there was so much story there as far as Ginny was concerned. And JKR seemed to leave that all off-screen. Maybe because it was supposed to be kids' books and their 2 weeks of bliss in HBP were nothing but make-out scenes? LOL I don't know -- she 'went there' with Cho Chang. If she hadn't put so much effort into giving us a glimpse into Harry's love life with Cho Chang, I might have understood her motivations more.
