A Gauntlet is Thrown
So, apparently, there was a gauntlet thrown down during a recent conversation I had with Jade. The gist of the convo was this:
Me: If I were to attempt to do an entirely objective analysis of Chloe’s character, I would pose the argument that she is a person who enjoys being the keeper of a secret and cannot deal with others being let into the exclusive club of knowing said secret. I say this not because I hate her, but because I feel this is what the show has shown me.
Jade: * snort * Objective, my ass.
Me: Seriously. I am entirely capable of doing an objective analysis of the Chloe Sullivan character on SV.
Jade: What about Lana?
Me: We’ve talked about this. Much like Voldemort, you’re not allowed to mention her name.
Jade: C’mon. She’s not as bad as the other one. You know, the blonde chick. The annoying blonde chick.
Me: You mean Chloe?
Jade: We’ve talked about this. No mentioning her name. [pause] To be honest, I’d like to read that analysis of yours. The objective one. And, to be fair, I could write one on the short brunette.
Me: Huh. You mean, equal opportunity torture? You think you can handle it?
Jade: I can. But can you? I mean, you’re getting stuck with the blonde.
Me: As long as I don’t have to re-watch any footage from the AoS, I’m good.
And, thus, the gauntlet was thrown. Jade is going to write an (objective) analysis of the Lana Lang character. I’m going to write an (objective) analysis of Chloe Sullivan.
The rules are simple: we have to completely set aside all bias. No coming at it from a shipping angle. We can’t call them names. We have to sit there and notice not just the flaws but also all the GOOD points. And we have to give the writers credit for the intent and not just their execution.
Jade has already started hers. If you head over to her LJ, you’ll see the first part of her Lana analysis up and running. I should have my own Chloe analysis up soon (I’m thinking tomorrow or Monday).
And you guys get to decide if we are actually successful! :)

You know, the funny thing is that whenever I mention Smallville to people they always say, "Oh, I used to watch that. I always liked Chloe." (Seriously, I've heard this same line at least four times.)
But the interesting part is that they all 'used' to watch Smallville so they only remember early Chloe. I just smile and nod instead of whipping out a list of Ms. Sullivan's ... er ... issues. LOL

Anyway, I look forward to reading (objective) analyses on both because I feel like I might be biased because they're women and that's why I go out of my way to figure their shit out. I don't know, I don't know.
Hopefully, I'll be able to read em this weekend/next week! Can't wait!!!!

I've seen Jade's post on Lana but haven't had the chance to read it. I'm going to sometime this week.
This is going to be great. I can't wait to read what you've written about Chloe. I've watched some of the old episodes recently and there were many things that I felt on first viewing of those episodes that I still strongly feel about Chloe and Lana. So I can't wait to read what you and Jade have to say about it.

My attempts to be unbiased in discussing both characters has all times failed massively.
For Chloe is fails some time in season 5 and 6 for Lana, at about season 4.
But I was watching seasons 9 idol with a friend of mine just yesterday, it was my, you love Lois and this is the ultimate Lois ep to get you hooked to continue to watch smallville under my close supervision.
When Chloe said you get to save the hero even from himself, my friend looked at me, asked "Who the hell is she to say that about superman?". I just stood up, got vodka and went into a 2 hour rant.
At the end:
"So you want me to watch this show and she's in it?"
"We have fast forward"
hear , hear..
I know how that goes. Usually i just fall back to pointing out how pretty TW is..
Let the games begin..
Im not following Jade's journal though, so could someone point me in the rite direction..?
